Southern Europe hot rolled cold (HRC) steel prices advanced slightly by 0.2% or €1 per ton week-on-week to €408 per ton in the week ended May 02nd this year, as per the latest figures released by the The Steel Index.
According to TSI, South European HRC index was unchanged during the week, as deals continued to be done at the same level as the week before. Offers from Italian mills remained near the €410 a ton mark.
North European HRC prices trended down last week, with TSI’s benchmark index slipping below the €430 a ton mark to €428 a ton.
Whilst top-tier steel producers were reported to have strong order books and not willing to offer discounts, smaller mills were seen lowering prices to attract orders.
